FAQs

We know participating in a virtual event isn’t the same as taking it all in, in person. We get it, and we don’t love it either. We would much rather be there on race day with all of you to cheer you on and watch you cross the Finish Line! But since 2020 life has been a little different for us all and we understand that accommodations must be made in order to have as many runners join us as possible.  We are working to create an engaging and fun virtual experience for you all the way and as you cross your finish line.

Rules:

  • You must be in good health and physically prepared to take on the challenges of your race recognizing you will not have any support, medical, or security measures in place.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable & non-transferable.
  • Participants must be at least 16 years old on race day to participate in the Marathon. A parent’s signature is required for all participants under 18 years old.
  • For safety reasons, we strongly recommend against the use of iPods, MP3 players or headphones of any type.
  • You must agree to follow all pedestrian safety ordinances including running on a sidewalk where available and not in the road.  You agree to follow the rules of the road if no sidewalk or multi-use trail is available, and you will run against oncoming traffic and not with traffic.
  • You must comply with all other Marathon rules and safety guidelines, any rules or regulations in effect in the community where you  are running this virtual race, and the CDC guidance relating to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and any updates thereto.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL EVENT?

A virtual race allows participants to complete the race distance on their own. You will run or walk the race distance at your own pace and at a time and location of your choosing. You choose your own race day and your own starting line, whether it’s a treadmill, a park or your neighborhood street. Be creative and make it FUN! These options will allow those invested so heavily in their training to keep going and be rewarded for their efforts with a medal from their respective race(s).

DO I HAVE TO RUN MY VIRTUAL EVENT ON A SPECIFIC WEEKEND?

No, you choose your planned race and run the event between September 19th and October 12th.   Your results must be uploaded by October 13th.

WILL IT BE A SET COURSE OR ONE WE CAN MAKE UP?

Participants will be choosing their own route for the virtual event.  We encourage you to get creative and make your race course fun.  You choose the starting line, you choose the finish line this is all about doing something you enjoy doing and still being part of the Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival.

WE SPECIFICALLY ASK THAT YOU DO NOT USE ANY OF OUR RACE DAY ROUTES FOR MULTIPLE REASONS.  1)  DUE TO COVID 19 THE WORD OF LIFE CAMPUS IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.  2)  THESE ROUTES ARE NOT PEDESTRIAN SAFE WITHOUT THE USUAL STREET CLOSURES AND POLICE ASSISTANCE WITH TRAFFIC.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT A GROUP RUN ON RACE WEEKEND.

WILL I HAVE TO USE MY PHONE, RUNNING WATCH OR OTHER DEVICE TO RECORD IT AND UPLOAD RESULTS?

You choose how you want to record the results of your run.  You are going to be on the honor system for completing the event.  However, we ask that participants upload their finish time so we have a results page.  Even though this year’s events are more about fun and not so much about competition, we all like to know how our times match up.   You will be able to upload your time through ACTIVE results.

WILL THE MEDAL AND SHIRT BE THE SAME AS IN PREVIOUS EVENTS?

Yes, we will send you a wooden medal similar to the ones we distributed in 2019.  The 2020 medal will be specific for the event(s) you complete virtually.  Runner’s that registered prior to July 1st for the September 27th races will receive a complimentary 2020 custom hoodie.  New registrants that are registering at a lower price can purchase the 2020 hoodie for $25.00. All swag and the medal will be mailed to you approximately 6 weeks after the race.

WHAT OTHER PARTICIPANT AMENITIES WILL I RECEIVE FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT?

You will receive a downloadable race bib, a finisher certificate, and a “vintage” shirt. We will attempt to have in-person pickup for local participants to pick up these items when it’s safe to do so. For non-local participants and those unable to make an in-person pickup, we will mail to the address provided during the registration process.  (Please note that the estimated shipping time may take longer for participants living outside the U.S.)

WILL THERE BE AWARDS FOR THE VIRTUAL EVENT AND CAN I QUALIFY FOR THE BOSTON MARATHON?

As everyone will be on the honor system and submitting their own finish times, we will not be offering awards for the virtual events. Additionally, since you’ll be creating your own courses that will not be certified, this year’s virtual event will not be eligible for Boston Marathon qualification.

HOW CAN I REGISTER FOR THE Adirondack Marathon Distance festival?

Registration is now open!  Click here.

DO ALL TEAM MEMBERS HAVE TO RUN ONE AFTER THE OTHER AS WE WOULD HAVE DONE IN THE “IN-PERSON” MARATHON RELAY?

NO! Runners have from September 19- October 12 to run and you just have to have either two or four runners that total 26.2 miles during that time! You can even be in different cities, states or even countries for that matter. But that doesn’t mean you can’t run it like an in-person event one after each other!

DO TEAMS HAVE TO RUN THE DISTANCES THAT WE WERE GOING TO RUN ON THE RACE COURSE IN THE ACTUAL EVENT, OR CAN WE ALL RUN 6.55 MILES AT THE SAME TIME?

Do it Your Way!!! The four distances must equal 26.2 miles. You can run what you originally planned, or each can run 6.55 miles or even one person can run 13.1 and the other three run shorter!  It just must total 26.2!  Be creative and have fun with this.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR DATE THAT WE HAVE TO DO THIS ON, OR DO WE HAVE A TIME FRAME IN WHICH WE NEED TO COMPLETE THIS BY?

Runners have from September 19th – October 12th.

WILL OUR RESULTS BE POSTED ALONG WITH/COMPARED TO THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS IN OUR CATEGORY?

Yes, we will have a results page available as well as several updates on social media! We want to make this as fun and interactive as possible!

WILL WE HAVE TO USE A PARTICULAR APP OR OTHER TIMING DEVICE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR PARTICIPATION, OR CAN WE USE ANY TIMING DEVICE/APP WE CHOOSE?

You can use whatever timing device/app you want. You just need to send in your date and time.  A picture of you crossing your finish line would be appreciated. In the case of the 2 Person and 4 Person Relays we need the times for each runner and they must total 26.2 miles!

DO RELAY TEAMS HAVE TO BE IN THE SAME STATE/AREA TO RUN?

That is the advantage of the virtual option! You can run from anywhere! Group your friends from around the country and run the virtual relay together!

HOW DO WE SUBMIT OUR RESULTS?

Individual Runners and for the Relays the Team Captain will submit your results. We will email all runners the link by September 20.

Run Safely and Have a Great Time!!!
